I was born in Jamaica and raised in Canada, and like many of us in the diaspora, I’ve always carried both places in my heart.

ABC Patois Adventures began at my kitchen table. My children would ask questions about Jamaica, about the way their grandparents spoke, about words they heard at family gatherings. They were fascinated. They wanted to understand the language, the rhythm, the culture. I realized there weren’t many books that gently introduced Jamaican Patois to young children in a way that felt fun, natural, and proud.

So I decided to create one.

This series is for children growing up in the diaspora who are curious about their roots. It’s for parents and grandparents who want to pass something down. It’s also for any child who simply wants to learn about Jamaica in a joyful way.

ABC Patois Adventures is the first book in what will be a growing collection for different age groups. My hope is that these books help children feel connected, confident, and proud of where they come from.
